Tag Greason vs. Liz Miller: A 32nd House District rematch

Democrat Liz Miller is taking a second stab this November at unseating three-term state Del. Tag Greason in the Ashburn-based 32nd House District.

The 2013 contest was closer than many political watchers had predicted, with Greason edging out Miller by less than 3 percent of the vote – 11,735 votes to 11,084.

Both Greason and Miller told the Times-Mirror transportation, congestion and education are critical issues for their district. Greason said the transportation need is so bad it led to the one time he supported a tax increase.

HOT lanes become campaign issue in Virginia

With the Nov. 3 elections just weeks away in Virginia, state and local candidates lined up with regular commuters on Thursday night in Loudoun County to denounce state plans to create high-occupancy toll lanes on Interstate 66 inside the Capital Beltway.

Many lawmakers and challengers said they would work to block the plan when the General Assembly convenes in January.

I-66 Toll Opposition Continues At Ashburn Forum

Well, there is one issue on which Loudoun’s candidates for state and local office seem to agree: The proposal to impose tolls on I-66 inside the Capital Beltway is a bad idea.

Many of them lined up to address the Virginia Department of Transportation’s project team during a community meeting at Farmwell Station Middle School in Ashburn on Thursday night.

Va. Democrats renew call for background checks for gun-show purchases

A group of Democratic lawmakers from Virginia unveiled a 28,000-signature petition Thursday demanding expansion of background checks for gun purchasers in the wake of a summer of violence that included the shootings of two Roanoke journalists and a tourism official on live television.

Seven Northern Virginia delegates and two Democratic nominees to the House of Delegates joined the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence at a news conference in Arlington to urge that background checks cover all gun sales, including those at gun shows and online.

House Candidate: Bring Back One-Gun-A-Month Law

Virginia should reinstate its one-gun-a-month law, House of Delegates candidate Elizabeth Miller said Friday.

Miller, a Democrat who is facing GOP Del. Thomas A. “Tag” Greason in the 32nd District, said that she has been held at gunpoint on three occasions and that it’s time to bring back the statute that restricted Virginians from buying more than one handgun per month.
